PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE |
 |
By: Samuel L. Braunstein
The Greater Bridgeport Bar Association, Inc. (GBBA) was established in 1880, one of the oldest, continuously active bar associations in the United States. Throughout its history, the GBBA has promoted excellence in the legal profession, defended the interests of its members, and has sought to advance the cause of a society ruled by law. The Association serves the professional needs of its members through its seminars highlighting the most recent developments in the law. The GBBA also provides for the collegial needs of its members with events such as the annual bar dinner, holiday party, and summer get-togethers. In 1995, The Greater Bridgeport Bar Association Scholarship Fund was established, and is administered by the Fairfield County Community Foundation (formerly Greater Bridgeport Area Foundation). Fund consists of contributions made by our members and the earnings thereon.
The Association also assists the community at large with its participation in the Salvation Army Christmas bell ringing, the "Toys for Tots" program, and the Horn of Plenty Food Drive. In addition, we participate in the Adopt-A-School program, Hallen School in Bridgeport being our adopted school, and the Adopt-A-Family program to help needy families during the holiday season.
New members, whether they are lawyers, paralegals or legal administrators, and their new ideas are always welcome.
The GBBA also hosts the Fairfield County Lawyer Referral Service whereby participating lawyers are matched with clients who are in need of legal assistance.
